A big hurdle you'd have to surmount today is that it isnt cool to be smart, and even if you are, it is even less cool to display : this is an especial problem in the ghetto, where doing well in school is sometimes stigmatized as "acting white". Generations of blacks who fought for the right to learn to read, or to build institutions like Howard University, must be turning over in their graves...
