<< I believe their inability to integrate the Tandem and DEC product lines into a meaningful strategy has cost them dearly and will continue to be a drain in the near future. >>
Really, if they had personally used a Tandem, a DEC, and a Compaq, they would never have had any illusions about making them into some kind of coherent product line, I would have thought. The kind of staff, the OS, the paradigms, the cost basis, the customers, the apps, etc etc are very very different. As different as possible, given that we are talking about the general category of computers. You're not even talking about the same approach on character codes or numerical formats. Just look at the trouble, expense, and years this kind of problem has cost IBM.
The best they can do is sell pc's and networking along with the big hardware and software all in one sale, maybe. Actually, I think they make more on Tandems selling terminals than PC's used as terminals, and want terminals for security, generally. So where's the benefit?
