Heinz,

I have been wondering about this employment cost for some time. So much of the compensation package, especially for the high tech high paying arena, are in the form of 401K, stock options, signing bonuses, generous moving expenses etc. Then if you work for a company whose stock has sky rocketed, why bother asking for a raise in the single digit range?

Assume you work for MSFT for the last 3 years, your wages might not have increased a penny but your options and MSFT stock in your 401K more than compensated for what did not show up on your paycheck.
