BellSouth Corporation Signs Worldwide Supplier Agreement with Alcatel

PLANO, Texas and ATLANTA, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA -news) is the first supplier to complete a strategic worldwide supplier agreement with BellSouth, enabling Alcatel to sell to all of BellSouth Corporation's (NYSE: BLS - news) affiliate companies without having to negotiate separate agreements with each entity.

The master agreement encompasses Alcatel's sales to BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc., BellSouth Wireless' entities, BellSouth Long Distance, BellSouth Entertainment, and BellSouth.net through 2003. By consolidating its purchasing power, BellSouth is expected to generate volume- based savings and reduce its total number of vendors.

''Few suppliers offer the global presence and breadth of products available from Alcatel,'' said Sid Boren, BellSouth Corporation's Executive Vice President. ''Alcatel is on the leading edge of a partnering agreement that provides a model on how BellSouth is driving out unnecessary costs.''

''This worldwide supplier agreement enables Alcatel to quickly bring together our expanding worldwide solutions,'' said Krish Prabhu, CEO of Alcatel USA. ''As Alcatel expands into more Internet solutions, we hope to bring those solutions to BellSouth's growing marketplace. We currently offer our ADSL, Litespan(TM) Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) and STP solutions, plus a full line of digital cross connects.''

BellSouth is a $23 billion communications services company. It provides telecommunications, wireless communications, cable and digital TV, directory advertising and publishing, and Internet and data services to nearly 34 million customers in 19 countries worldwide. All the best,
Michael
