My understanding is that the prenuptial agreement will exact anywhere from a $150 million to $250 million penalty from the party that initiates termination of the deal.

However, that amount is peanuts compared to the hundreds of millions of dollars in time and focus that have been lost and would be wasted by Cowell trying to pursue this ill-timed venture.

Well, if things run their current course then Cowell will be out of a job by next year - he'll either leave voluntarily or be forced out by the 3Com career men. We can then look forward to reading his book (ala John Scully of Apple) and learn 2 things:

1) Cowell thinks California's weather is much better than that of Northern Illinois.

2) Cowell will still claim that the 3Com deal was a good thing and its the analysts fault for not understanding it - isn't that what the CEO's of all ill-fated ventures say?
