Scanshift--> "War is Hell" its not just a saying. It will push people to places that were they would never be, unless they were there. Please consider this. You first line in your post tells us what you think you are observing in Tony, while you need to "Know thy self" and take the time to consider what effects Kosovo has had on you. You make the point that you "have seen worse", this make me feel that you are discounting the effect that seeing this tragedy have (are having) on you. Surely see this terrible situation has had an effect on both of you, and since you have never traveled together before, Kosovo is an incredibly difficult place to get to meet someone 24 X 7 for the first time.
Scanshift, I am urging you to take some time to put these things into perspective, you asked in the beginning for Tony's help you got it, you are back, in the US no, take some time to reflect. What you have seen in Kosovo is terrible. Wait to talk to Tony or by all means, don't wait, contact him. (I urge everyone to let Tony and Fane to discuss between themselves, both have surely done good work, let them re-acclimate to the US) You, Tony, and many others here have done a lot of good work on Kosovo, this is what will be left standing.
Everything does not happen as we expect, let the junk fall away, there is plenty of good to see.
