BAM [OT][M]any AOL subscribers who sign up for broadband access via cable are dropping AOL; they find they can live without it.

Look who else is dropping AOL:
fnews.yahoo.com

excerpt: "The Gardners [of Motley Fool] simply don't need AOL anymore."

Trouble ahead for AOL? I think this is significant because it points to some of the qualitative differences that exist among stock chat sites on the web. AOL is always tops in the eyeball count, but whenever I have tried them, I have always been disappointed with their services. As a stock chat site, SI is far superior even to moderated sites. Charging a subscription fee was the smartest thing they ever did because it results in a higher quality user base.
