As far as European public opinion goes, I think we can no longer talk of anything pro-Soviet... that's BS!! Rather, it's an Anti-American sentiment we're dealing with.
Unemployed youths don't bet on some communist revival in Europe: the (Far) Left Utopy is stone-dead. Meanwhile, the jingoist, far-rightist utopy is still alive --and that's the real threat looming over Europe for the time being.
What a fraction of Europe's public opinion is resentful about IS NOT Russia's powerlessness, instead it's the feeling of being pushed around like some Papuan tribe by the U.S.! As emphazised in the French article I posted on this thread a few days ago, some European intellectuals/scholars have started wondering ''who's next?'', meaning that in a couple of years from now, NATO could be put back on a new mission --westward...
