Compaq Marketing Chief Said To Leave As Shakeup Continues By GARY MCWILLIAMS Dow Jones Newswires
HOUSTON -- Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ), on the heels of a management shakeup that saw its chief executive and chief financial officer leave, is expected to announce Thursday the departure of its worldwide sales and marketing executive as part of a restructuring of its sales operations.
Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Michael D. Heil has left the Houston computer maker, according to a person close to the company. Under a plan expected to be announced Thursday, the company will return to a three-part regional sales organization, that person said.
The moves come less than two weeks after Compaq's board ousted former Chief Executive Eckhard Pfeiffer and named three of its members to an acting office of the chief executive. A Compaq spokesman declined to comment. Heil could not be reached.
The three regions will be overseen by two sales managers now responsible for North America and Europe. In addition, Senior Vice President for Worldwide Marketing Enrico Pesatori will oversee a new region consisting of Asia, Latin America and Australia.
The other two executives are: Peter Blackmore, currently head of North American sales, who will continue in that role, and Andreas Barth, currently head of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Heil, 51, who took over the worldwide sales and marketing job 14 months ago, joined the company in 1995 as head of its consumer products group. He was the third executive to run the global sales organization since it was created.
The sales restructuring is the first major action by Chairman Benjamin M. Rosen since taking control of the company April 18. He has said the directors do not intend to be caretakers while a search for a new CEO is underway.
CommcoTec Corp., a privately held developer of a wireless network, said Compaq's Heil is joining the company as president and chief executive.
The Stamford, Conn., wireless communications provider was founded by Scott Reardon, a Sioux Falls, S.D., entrepreneur and president of Dakon Group, an investment company.
CommcoTec, a year-old start-up, is in the process of building a nationwide network and plans to begin offering high-speed data services to business customers later this year.
Prior to joining Compaq in 1995, Heil was president of Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Co., a wireless local phone company. |
