You're right about delays in DVD, at least at the consumer level, although that won't effect its introduction as a computer storage device.

If you look around, though, most computer users generate relatively small data files. The primary use of Zip drives, among people I know at least, seems to be storage of graphics and transfer to service bureaus. Given that all PCs will have large hard drives, the increased availability of high-speed access to the Internet and ISDN links to service bureaus would seem to make a separate device for removable storage less necessary.

You might take a look at the recent announcement by Nintendo that they intend to provide a storage add-on with about 65 Meg capacity and some smaller writeable area. The reason they don't just use Zip is, presumably, cost.
