When high-bandwidth connections are ubiquitous, local physical storage will be so disadvantaged that people will get over their psychological need for an object "containing" their data. The encrypted data may exist off on the net someplace, but people will be certain that it's meaningless without their keys. And they'll also be happy that someone else, at almost zero cost, backs up and replicates their data as needed without any mental effort on their part, that their data is available anywhere, anytime they need it, and that they can share it and update it without much effort. How many people still keep their money under their mattress?

The infrastructure will take an unpredictable number of years to develop, of course.
