I worked there from Jan 96 thru June 98, so yes, I was there during the Gerstner era. Can't complain mostly, the employee purchase plan worked out very well. Eventually had to leave when other co's were willing to give me a 30% raise to switch...That's life in the Bay Area.
I guess you are right about the annual service agreements with big companies. But doesn't technical consulting have to work on the basis of booked hours, where you go to a client site, set up their Lotus Notes systems or whatever and then leave? I would expect it to work that way, but with major clients it could be set up differently, I suppose.
As for Y2K liabilities, I am currently working on a Y2K project. And our firm has had a specific section in its master agreement with its clients, for the past 3 years or so, that they are not responsible for any Y2K problems that might arise, etc etc. I would expect IBM to have done the same. Of course, that still leaves them exposed big time since they have been around since before most other co's but then, that's what lobbying in Washington is for, right?
