Cirrus Logic 3D Engine Chosen By Jaton Corp. for New Graphics Board
World's Largest Video Card Supplier Selects Laguna3D Accelerator To Provide Best-Of-Class 3D Performance
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1997-- Cirrus Logic Inc today announced that Jaton Corp. has selected Cirrus Logic's Laguna3D(TM) graphics accelerator for its new Video-70P graphics card.
The CL-GD5464 chip chosen by Jaton is the initial entry in the Laguna3D family of multimedia accelerators. With industry-leading performance in mainstream PC graphics, the Laguna3D chip is a 64-bit GUI accelerator that delivers arcade-action 3D and is optimized to support the Microsoft(R) Direct3D(TM) API.
Jaton Corp., located in Milpitas, Calif., produces a full line of video cards. Its Video-70P graphics board is geared toward the desktop graphics market, and more specifically the 3D games industry.
In addition to supporting a host of exciting 3D applications, including software titles optimized for Direct3D, the Video-70P board comes bundled with Trispective 3D software tools. The Video-70P also supports Open GL systems and is available immediately from Jaton at a suggested retail price of $159 with 4MB of Rambus(TM) (RDRAM(R)) memory.
"As the world's largest manufacturer of video graphics boards, we are excited to be working with Cirrus Logic," said Meng Lee, vice president of Jaton Corp. "The use of the Laguna3D chip on our Video-70P graphics card allows us to continue to offer our customers the best-of-class graphics performance at competitive prices."
"Our high-performance Laguna3D accelerator takes advantage of the latest multimedia technologies being offered by companies such as Microsoft and Intel(R)," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing for Cirrus Logic's Graphics Company. "Our relationship with Jaton further solidifies our commitment to delivering OEM top-of-the-line 3D graphics solutions."
The Laguna3D chip utilizes Rambus memory technology, and performs 3D rendering functions such as texture map filtering, Z-buffering and Gouraud shading using Cirrus Logic's TextureJet(TM) architecture for high-speed texture mapping.
To fully support Direct3D, the Laguna3D accelerator is optimized for all key features of this API, including accelerated low-resolution modes, hardware arithmetic stretching and multiple display buffering. In addition, the Laguna3D family supports Open GL for workstation environments.
