tim, if we are a big happy family here, as you have said... then you would be the daddy, yes?? daddy's job is to preach, and hope that maybe, just maybe those children will soak in something as they pretend not to be listening... daddy does this because he wants those children to have a better life than he had... this is just second nature to dads... it comes with the territory... and yes, tim... daddy wants those kids to learn from his mistakes, so they don't have to go through the same painful things that he went through... but they usually do anyway... and all dad can do is hope for the best for them, and keep on preaching...
