Re: CTXS and INTC ASP Plans

Mike, Mardy, Mkilloran,

Well I guess, "enemy," may have been too strong a word. But anything that keeps Intel from being able to sell the latest, greatest processor to desktop users probably isn't something Intel would like to promote. But reluctantly may have to, as I believe you three are suggesting. BTW, that semi-scathing article I have yet to summarize, talked about how MSFT is doing a terrible job of promoting Terminal Server Edition. Now that is understandable.

I suppose if a customer came to Intel (assumming Intel is going to be an ASP), and said, "Look I've got 1000 desktops. 500 are 486's, 500 are 386's and I want to run the lastest version of Widget2000 Accounting Software that will only run on a Pentium processor. How can you help me?"

I suppose Intel could tell them to, "Buy a bunch of Pentium desktops and we make a lot of money."

Or they could say, "Go to our ASP division and go with Citrix software. Then you don't have to buy any new hardware. We'll supply the Pentium servers. We can make money charging you monthly fees."

Or they can suggest a Java-based Widget2000 solution and the customer still does not have to buy new hardware or Citrix software. But that's another subject.

Strange situation for Intel to be in. It will be interesting to see if they ever end up pushing software from Citrix to their ASP customers. That still seems strange to me but I suppose I can see why it may have to happen.
