Okay Curbstone--fair enough dude. Takes a bit of starch under your collar to fess up, and you done did it. Cool by me.
What follows is probably the most idiotic thing I've ever done, but what the hell.
There's been a fair amount of chatter flying back and forth about the "old guys" and the "new guys", which tends to leave both sides vulnerable to being either a) provincial, in the case of the former, or b) lacking, shall we say, decorum, in the case of the latter. It goes w/o saying that the essence of these threads is free speech on steroids, so let me immediately state that my remarks are in no way intended to undermine or alter that basic premise.
My purpose, rather, is to broadly, and warmly, welcome all of you who have recently come to passionately embrace the Mighty Q. The pregnant little "but" hanging ever so heavily in the air is simply this: this has been one very terrific thread for a very long time. I will quickly admit that that sentence might sound self-serving, egotistical, and otherwise jerk-like, but it ain't. It's simply the truth and you'll have to trust me. [not for long as the evidence will assert itself rather automatically]
I suppose the above amounts to a rationalization or at least a simple request, which is to make haste slowly, or at least with some cognizance of that which has preceeded your recent entry. While it is true for the most part that the fundamental Rule is that there are no Fundamental Rules, there is zero tolerance for discourtesy, ditto a lack of simple, basic, fundamental respect. Other than that, knock yourselves out.
The joint gets a little testy from time to time, but I can't think of ANY significant exception to the course of conduct I have described. Does this mean we always agree and send little love notes to each other? Randomly sample any of the prior 3 trillion posts and answer the question for yourself. Hell, I haven't agreed with Ramsey in three years.
Anyway, the above may be a huge waste of bandwidth but that's what Bill $ates made the little clicker thingie on your mouse for. Welcome to the Q thread boys and girls, Mike Doyle
