Publicity via e-mails, media-events, CNBC coverage, frenzied speculation, etc. help but will most probably not generate a winner.

Deals with portals are very important (and expensive). You can check out mediametrix.com to get a handle of how many unique visitors the portals get. To attract visitors they will have to spend the big bucks.

I am constantly seeing/hearing ads on TV/Radio for all sorts of dotcom companies - EBAY, AMZN, EGGS, PCLN, etc. An aggressive campaign is a must. It will help separate the winners from the KTELs and the CYSPs of the internet.

BIDS does not have the money/resources for an aggressive campaign.
