Funny, indeed.

Just this morning I was thinking about what differentiates the net from the tv networks and local affiliates, and why the latter are on the way out.

What do I hate most about the tv nets and affiliates? They have imbeciles doing news and programming. I see these people on occasion and talk with them. They're clueless.

Here's their dilemma for which there is no way out, in my opinion.

Let's start with the national networks. They're too small vis-a-vis the Internet Players to be acquirers. Most are already subsidiaries of other guys. If anything, they are the acquirees. The regional/locals are too pathetic to even discuss.

What all these folks have in common is that they have only 24 hours in a day, have limited resources, and have morons deciding what is sellable to the greatest number of viewers. This means that they have to dumb down by definition.

Well, I and the other skeighty-eight million other netheads are having none of it. So what happens?

So, combine say "Ask Jeeves" (www.ask.com) with gigabit real time broadband net access for video. Tell Jeeves what your interested in, and it'll provided you with a zillion possible sites, all with live or archive streaming video. There is then a rating system based upon whatever personal preferences I might specify. I only get those video sites. All in real time. The sites will have to be fairly smart and objective because of all the competition waiting in the wings. And the programming will not be by imbeciles, playing necessarily to peoples emotions rather than intellects (for that I can watch the networks).

This is different than present day network or cable tv. Now you're a passive taker of offerings. With the Net, you will be an active programmer yourself.

Like Gilder said, the death of TV as we know it is near. They're fixed programming, with moronic format, and only 24 hours a day with limited resources. The Net is all the time, intelligent, everywhere, with unlimited resources, and a reason to watch/participate.

Just MHO
