"e.Digital plans music player "San Diego-based e.Digital Corp. said it is working with Lucent Technologies and Texas Instruments to develop a handheld device for listening to music downloaded from the Internet. The new device, to be designed by e.Digital, will use Lucent's enhanced perceptual audio code format, instead of MP3 format, used by La Jolla's MP3.com. Lucent's technology marks files to identify copyright material. The new player will be about the size of Diamond Multimedia Systems's popular Rio player, said e.Digital's Robert Putnam.
