john, i would agree with most of what you said except i would say it is absolutely essential for cube to have a major roll in DVD.i think that DVD needs mpeg2 decode chips or it won't work. mpeg1 or mpeg1+ doesn't have enough oomph.DVD rom is going to kill cd-rom players very,very, quickly once it comes out. cube won't dominate DVD because they weren't really involved in the standard setting negotiations last fall (nov?).sony-phillips /matsushita only need to go by the mpeg2 specs. not cube's spec's . i think they've found out that mpeg2 is good enough that they won't be going to a mpeg3 format anytime soon. so mpeg2 is a major milestone. mpeg2 really means Welcome to the DIGITAL AGE enjoy,there's a lot of good stuff that's gonna hit the shelves very soon.
