That works for the Windows 98 shutdown screen as well as the shutting down screen. The file names are the same for Windows 95. C:\Windows\Logos.sys = ...safe to shutdown screen... C:\Windows\Logow.sys = ...windows is shutting down your computer... In Windows 95, you had the main Windows 95 splash screen which was called logo.sys and was contained in the root directory. However, Windows 98 seems to do things differently. Although I cannot verify this, it seems that Microsoft has embedded the Windows 98 splash screen in the IO.SYS file (one of your main boot files). Considering the size of the IO.SYS file (over 200k) that would make sense. Besides, if you take a blank drive, and use the SYS.COM commmand to transfer boot files to it, see what happens when you boot with it (use a blank diskette). You'll see the splash screen there too. If that is the case, I would be intrigued to find a way to edit that. Rich
