The 2nd IPO today, ATHY, enlists the mighty Bear Stearns to lead the underwriting effort. AppliedTheory provides Internet solutions to about 650 midsize businesses and public sector institutions, mostly
New York public institutions. The company has solid revenue growth, up 143 percent over the last two years. That's enough for IPO traders to rate this IPO's aftermarket performance as very good.

Not a well known internet player, but ATHY's future looks very promising. The only thing that prevented ATHY from generating an even higher revenue growth was the limitation of its sales force, and the company intends to allocate much the cash infusion from the IPO in that area. As well, ATHY is one of the few serious players in Internet2, a project in which Bill Gates is investing heavily.
