PHILADELPHIA (March 4) BUSINESS WIRE -March 4, 1997--Voice recognition, widely regarded as the future face of computing, will soon become easy for both users and developers when a unique new set of voice tools will enable developers to add speech recognition capabilities to their applications. Speech Solutions, Inc. (a subsidiary of Global Intellicom, Inc.) has been contracted by IBM to develop leading edge tools that will allow developers to effortlessly add voice capability to their projects. On March 6th the company will begin shipping Voice Tools(TM) ActiveX(TM) custom controls for the IBM VoiceType Dictation System version 3.0 speech recognition product.
Speech Solutions Voice Tools are ActiveX custom controls that enable Windows programmers, working with Visual Basic(R) to incorporate voice functionality into existing and future software programs. By simply dropping these controls into their Windows applications, developers can make free dictation, voice command, and voice control an integral part of Windows NT(R), and Windows 95(TM) applications.
"The relationship with Speech Solutions has been a strong and significant one," says Jan Winston, Director of speech worldwide at IBM. "Their innovative product, Voice Tools, will enable widespread availability of viable speech-enabled applications to end users the world over through individual and corporate developers."
"Speech Solutions has built powerful Voice Tools combining the latest technologies from the industry leaders IBM and Microsoft," said Dr. Alan Costilo, president of Speech Solutions. "The high accuracy of the IBM VoiceType 3.0 speech recognition technology, coupled with its new `out of the box' speaker independence, make it the recognized industry leader. Our Voice Tools allow programmers to drag and drop this amazing technology within the easy to use, versatile and robust Microsoft Visual Basic environment."
"We are excited about Speech Solutions harnessing the power of ActiveX and using it in such innovative ways as they are with this speech recognition capability," said Jon Roskill, director of marketing for Visual Basic at Microsoft. "This brings speech capabilities to the millions of VB developers."
Voice Tools allows the end user to dictate instead of type and to control their applications by voice. Among the control features of the package are:
Voice Notator(TM) - A playback and record control that allows recording and playback of sound files and can be used to add voice prompts to the application.
Press Panel(TM) - A 3D-voice command button and panel that can be operated by voice, keyboard, or mouse, or that can be used to voice activate groups of radio buttons to voice boxes.
List Assist(TM) - A voice list box that has standard list box properties and behavior and can use its own command vocabulary to voice activate the contents.
Voice Window(TM) - A full replacement for the standard text box that actually accepts free dictation.
Sonar Tool(TM) - A voice navigator that allows control of voice-enabled objects, as well as all standard Windows menus and sub-menus within an application.
The complete package includes Speech Solutions Voice Tools software, the special developer runtime version of the IBM VoiceType Dictation System for Windows, a noise canceling microphone, full documentation, and sample applications. The Speech Solutions Voice Tools package will retail for a special introductory price of $299 through June 1st. It will be available for purchase through certified resellers nationwide, direct from Speech Solutions' sales department at 1-800-SPEECH-7, or from the company's Web Site at www.speechsolutions.com.
