Thank you for your comments, Arnold.
Succes in the short run, and especially in technology,is a relative thing. I have had more good picks than bad, but the reason is that I get rid of my bad picks FAST!!!!!!! I consider a bad pick one that has caused loss on my principal investment. Such two stocks in my portfolio are QDRX, and ISSI, but I have some reason to hold on to them. I bought MU around 55 a month ago and went out two days later to avoid the sell-off caused by Barron's bad mouthing. Now, I am back at 49 1/2, and call options as well. I will not hesitate to cut it off again if it falls to below 48.
NSCP was a hype thing that I am parting with. As of today I hold only 25% of my initial position, which I took at 69 in October. I sold at 147, 167, and 129 today. I think 110 will be a resistance level on the way down, because it was at that price that the stock was rated a buy by Alex Brown and Soundview. They might reiterate their ratings at that level, sending the stock back up. So, my advice for you is to cover in the teens.
As for mutual fund management - that is a great idea, but a great constraint too. I can't yet accept the thought of being "aggressive" by diversifying into at least 30-50 stocks. I never hold more than 7-8 at a time, usually I focus on 4-5. But then again, I could do anyting in my account, which leads to ethical considerations....
Look into Ciprico - CPCI, NASDAQ. this one might be poised for big time appreciation. Later. |
