Doubtful. Too much passion among SIers, too little willingness to think rationally.

For example: there in all the Columbine tragedy, few people are yet prepared to recognize the degree of responsibility the HS culture has for this tragedy. HS administrations celebrate the jocks and shun the geeks (when was the last time you saw a pep rally for the debate or chess teams going off to matches?), allows taunting and even bullying, and generally helps exacberate (if not create) alienation and hostility. But when it comes out in violence against the tormentors, we are shocked, SHOCKED.

We have a great deal of difficulty in this country understanding that our culture and our treatment of people has consequence. (I won't even start to get into how this is playing out in Yugoslavia!)
