half- scot:I agree that it is absurd to treat the perpetrators as victims, and also that the signing of such pledges is insidious and futile. I will say, though, that it is normal to look for a context, and just as one might try to inhibit promiscuity by lowering hem lengths, one might try to lower retaliative violence by encouraging greater considerateness. However much the "tolerance" thing has metastisized, there is nothing wrong with civility...
