The Japanese, Korean and Chinese have so far turned to Ericsson and Nokia for W-CDMA expertise,

Quite obviously, cmda expertise is with Qualcomm. "So far" in the above sentence applies to a one month period since the world changed. Q! and cdma has overthrown GSM as the world standard. The W-CDMA development was/is just hype. GSM types will push it as different, but in the end it will all be compatible because everyone is not stupid.

The huge gain for Qualcomm is that they are not competing with GSM for market share anymore. CDMA and its flavors ARE the market. So even though Qualcomm will not make AS MUCH from wcdma (however long it lasts), it WILL make tons of money from it, not lose money.

When the Sprint PCS network demonstrates how much more advanced it is from the GSM/WCDMA promised land, Q's cdma will steal even more market share.

I think Tero is right in that Q will make cdma phones for W-CDMA. Why miss out on the market?

Just remember, EVERYONE PAYS Q! ka-ching!
