Ok, but I thought you were refering to the crosses and how civil that is. Crosses, stones, whatever that are erected and decorated on a grave site are monuments to the dead. On the one hand, once a person is dead, it is over. He has moved on to final judgement and I have nothing to say or do about his life from this point on.

On the other hand erecting a monument is just that, continuing to give recognition and recourse to this persons life. Its bad enough that people don't shut up about Eric Harris. Now they have to make a monument of forgiveness. This has an impact on the living. Once again we not only refuse to recognize evil for what it is, we face it with acceptance and forgiveness. In effect we invite nihilistic youth who are seeking attention to come forward in this fashion. Tact? Civility? Are you sure?
