Agreed. The ISP update will probably take much longer then the equipment update to 33.6. Look at the problems many of the ISPs are having just staying connected at 28.8. As for the BOCI offerings, they are software upgradable. Any features and enhancements made to new models will applicable to the units already sold. As far as I know, no hardware needs to be replaced... the flash ROM takes care of the firmware issues. The ROK chips seem to be very stable. Regarding the frenzy... this is good for the industry even though many customers may not need a 56K unit know, they will soon. Offering a 56K unit will change buying patterns for the remainder of the year. This holds true in retail, were customers autocorrelate (leap-frog over existing generation) to get the next-best-thing. I think 56K start a pattern like V.34 did. It really does work well when even connected at 40-50K for viewing web pages. Of course it depends on your local telcos quality of switching as you mentioned before.
