As further info, I also work with Nortel and moved from Canada to the US about 10 years ago. Biggest reasons were a fairly clear view that the relative economic benefits would only worsen comparitively between the two countries. (Strong second reason was a desire never to shovel snow again for as long as I lived.)

I moved to Canada from England many years back for the same reason - Canada needs a Margaret Thatcher clone.
