I never said lots of db servers. Just the app servers - for failover and scalability. I don't think I mentioned billions of either db or app servers so maybe you shouldn't add words to my post that are not there or maybe you should just learn to read more carefully. And why do you feel the need to write things like 4-billion dollar enterprise? Does this automatically make you right?

A question for you - How are you consolidating when you are adding servers - app servers in this case? Back to my original point which you have misconstrued. Many of the high end Unix boxes in corporations today are db servers and my point is that I can lessen the load on these servers (and thus the need for higher end hardware) by improving my application's architecture within an N-Tier environment.
