Commentary from XLNS Research ...

As a competitor, I consider it important to promote the entire Logarithmic Number System (LNS) industry by doing what I can to educate others about LNS technology. I wish to put in a good word for LGPT's technology, KMAC's enthusiasm, and the other recent posts.

My opinions are just that, opinions. They are however based on my experience as a software engineer (formerly with one of Hewlett-Packard's R&D labs), as an LNS entrepreneur, and as a co-author of a few peer reviewed LNS articles that have appeared in IEEE journals.

LGPT's technology is credible -- their U.S. Patents are tangible evidence of this. In particular, LGPT's fast table-driven function generators (coupled with LNS) are apt to provide considerably faster execution speed than polynomial expansions done with conventional floating point. LNS technology, and LGPT's patents in particular, might be suitable for embedded microprocessors.

As always, the big challenge for LNS technology is overcoming the tremendous marketing momentum behind conventional floating point. It will likely take some time for LNS technology to make inroads into markets presently ruled by conventional floating point.

It remains to be seen whether the LNS market will develop as hoped. If it does, LNS investors might have good reason to be enthusiastic.

I thank the members of this forum for their interest in LNS technology and wish everyone the best with their investment decisions.

Regards,

Mark Winkel
