Kash, Re <<The lack of production on the K-3 is very worrying.

They MUST be having severe manufacturing problems with it.>>

No, not at all!

AMD has been very clear that K6-III will not be a high volume chip till the third quarter. AMD is currently starting very small number of waffers for K6III and that is by plan. K6III will replace the K62 as AMD's main chip as the move to 0.18 progesses.

AMD was very clear about this during their CC. Currently K6III 400 is available from virtually all small computer shops here in San Diego and I persume they are on track to ship "several hundreds of thousands" this quarter.

Next quarter will be the challenge of ramp up for both K6III and initial volumes on K7. AMD will be in a sewer if they screw up next quarter. But as for as you saying they must be having "manufacturing problems" since K6III is not shipping in real high volumes this quarter, you are wrong. Currently $10,000/wafer is the goal.
