Ellen,
I know this will probably sound flippant but I don't purposely mean for it to. So here goes anyway. You mean when will I complain about (any) thread member(s) put on the defensive because someone like Janice and/or fellow group members came charging in, guns cocked and shouting "moron" at the top of his/her lungs? Probably never. And by the way, I've seen her and/or fellow group members behave that way prior to having done any research , as they couldn't answer questions put to them by thread members.
In the first place, don't you think that the "crew" reads the thread before posting? In the second place, don't you think that they start out slow with disingenuous posts for a reason?
There are a number of different "styles" that posters use on SI. Some are real daytraders who post on the day trading threads. Some are touters who post on the daytrading threads and the hot list. Some are longer-term investors who post on selected stock threads and the more staid TA and discussion threads. Some are paid hypsters, who either post everywhere or concentrate on a single thread putting out the company line. Some are ankle-biters that follow particular people around and post illogical arguments against them regardless of (& ignoring) the actual purpose of the thread.
Now, don't you think that it is easy to figure out where a particular posters "talent" lies? It is not that hard when you consider the research tools at our disposal and a little experience. I started reading SI in late '97, joined in May '98 and it took me about four months of real investing to figure out who to "listen" to.
Initially, I lost a lot of money through inexperience -- largely through my acceptance of Hyper's and P&D artist's "tips" at face value. Now, I have made all of that back and am quite happy with my current investments and trading patterns.
I am much more cynical now, but I am making money. I thank Janice, Jeff and Bill, among others, for my education -- they (the WN3) really know how to research a company and I have picked up on many of their methods and have applied them to companies and stocks that I am interested in.
My current SI activities include researching and discussing stocks, nipping ankles (just like you, but I never follow people around, they come to me in threads I have already bookmarked) and having a little bit of fun with silly posts. You should mellow out, Ellen, and have some fun.
Janice is just a nice, witty lady that lives in Italy who enjoys discussing scam stocks. She is experienced enough to spot them correctly and does have an impressive track record. She is not the Antichrist, and is a lot better at both research and record keeping than you are.
I know that this post will have no effect on your crusade, but hopefully you will think a little bit about your agenda and decide to start having some fun. Or better yet, start harassing hypesters rather than the "good" guys. |
