New coin for the new millennium
Mining Magazine, Apr 1999, p 225
Some of the world's largest gold companies are joining forces to produce a millennium souvenir coin. The project will be led by Barrick Gold of Canada, and the companies include Anglo American of South Africa, Newmont Gold of the USA and Placer Dome of Canada. These, and other companies are holding discussions to plan details, including a worldwide marketing and promotions campaign. Interested companies may plan corporate participation, as one side of the coin will incorporate the millennium design, while the other side will have a corporate or institutional logo. The companies hope that the coin will be as successful as the popular South African Krugerrand, which has sold more then 1400 t of gold. The millennium coin will sell for around $400.
