Let's just say that this day indicated a shift in the holders of the stock. Buy hold and shorts covering or shorts increasing their position. The following days where significant volume also occurred and the stock did not sink steadily, confirmed that the interest of the stock has turned to buy and hold and the shorts exiting. In coms case it held at 20, about 10% less in price than the low on that record volume date, and it promptly bounced to 27+. If shorts had increased their position then coms would be in the teens now.

So, if there are more buyers who are holding and the shorts are exiting the price of coms should go up as the available supply of coms stock dwindles.
