It bought products from leading suppliers (Brocade Fibre Channel switches and CLARiiON storage systems, for example), made them work together with its Windows NT servers, slapped on the Dell logo, and began shipping them for cheap. *But the real SAN market is at the higher end, so expect Dell to sell Solaris- and UnixWare-ready SANs in early 2000.* Finally, next week the company will roll out an entire line of network-attached storage within its PowerVault mass-storage line. I hear the company has struck a deal with Network Appliances to rebrand and support NAS systems of up to 1.4TB for both NT and UNIX environments. If you order next week, you might be the first to get one of three models Dell will ship in early June.
