On this point, I personally tend to agree with you, Christine.

But I have a couple of questions about the statistics you cite.

1) According to the report, non-gun suicides were committed at about the same rate in the U.S. as in the other 25 countries. What about non-gun murders? Anything in the full report about that?

2) Again, as the report has it(emphasis mine): "Of the total homicides among children in the world, 73 percent, (1,464) occurred among U.S. children." All the other statistics you cite are based on a comparison of the US with 25 other industrialized nations. We do not have adequate murder & suicide statistics for much of the rest of the world. (Suppose a rag-tag rebel army of children wipes out a village somewhere in Africa -- who counts? And if anyone counts, are the slaughtered villagers considered to be murder victims, or casualties of war? ) This can get sticky....Does the full report elaborate on this point any further?

Thanks.

Joan
