Article as follows:
"Dell on Tuesday plans to reveal a pact with a Norwegian company (Fast Search & Transfer ASA)that is marketing a new Web search service". "Under the accord, Dell will sell computer servers and related gear to Fast Search at a discount. In return, Dell's logo will appear on every page called up using Fast Search. "Users will get information about Dell Products".
Dell's VP of Enterprise systems says "This is a great opportunity, as the web grows, this is going to be key for us".
"Fast Search plans to sell its service to Web Portals, electronic commerce sites and companies that put together communities of like-minded Web sites" "These customers would use Fast Search as an added feature on their Web sites.
Dell is Fast Search's second big partnership with a US firm. Earlier this year, it provided Lycos Inc. with search engines for finding software and audio files on the Web. (These are different than the common document files and thus won't come up sporting a Dell logo).
"If Fast Search signs up even one such customer, Dells logo and ads could reach millions of eyeballs" per Fast Search president David Burns. "One deal could mean 25 million page views a day" he said.
"The partnership could be a windfall for Dell" says Barry Parr,an analyst with International data Corp. in Framingham Mass. "Its an excellent branding opportunity for Dell if they can pull it off" he said.
"There are few players selling search services" says Danny Sullivan, editor of research firm, Search Engine Watch in London. "Essentially, you have only one company doning this (Inktomi), so the market is wide open" he said.
The article has more (its fairly long). I suggest reading the whole article. ___________________________________________________________ |
