Apple has almost $3B in cash, and will likely have more than that after this quarter. At an average price of $45, Apple could retire 10% of it's shares for less than $800M.

That alone would significantly boost EPS for 2000. Retiring shares is complicated, and the price would obviously rise, but once the convertible debt is out of the way, Apple will be in a position to defend its share price, and retire equity.

And with Apple's current quarterly cash flow, there is no reason to think that this couldn't persist long term.
