CM:
Although there is no direct Wave mention on the MOT/Sarnoff pages of the MOT site, it may not mean much one way or the other. Motorola is very committed to its SmartCard technology, which in a few ways is Wave-competitive, although certainly not inclusive of all Wave functions.
Regarding Smart Cards, I remember hearing in one of the net broadcast interviews with Steve Sprague a comment he made about how the Embassy system would solve the problem of having to have and carry multiple smart cards. I've been wanting to look it up and rehear or reread it, but I can't quite remember where it was and I can't seem to find reference to it on the Wave Press Release and Info pages. Can anyone else recall the comment and the location of the interview??
EC-MAN:
If we accept SEITF's statement to "group92" that the page was basically one compiled and unchanged since "last fall", that is about the same time that there was a lot of SI and RB discussion of the possibility of a Motorola-Wave connection, based on the Motorola press release about "Blackbird". There was really a lot of discussion on both boards. After posting my answer to you I looked through a lot of the RB posts and was reminded about how extensive the discussion was at that time.
It also appears that SEITF is not overly rigorous in their website information display and editing. For example, they indicate that their investment objective is VC'ing technology companies in the Southeast - yet they then indicate that one of their principal investments is a Mass. company with no comment on it being outside of their expressed area of operation.
Based on the above, my own theory is that they wrote up their Wave webpage section based upon the information that Wave gave them, plus they may have taken a bit of poetic license in inserting what they may have seen, heard or expected from "talk" about Wave and let the Motorola information find its way into their writeup without full verification.
If I'm right, the SEITF Motorola mention is not particularly meaningful as "new data" at this time. It is, of course, possible that I'm totally or partially incorrect. Having not seen their web page before the recent change, I can't say. I think someone here or on RB said they were an SEIT fund investor. Maybe they can remember something about whether or not the MOT mention had been there for many months.
All of that said, it is still not unreasonable to consider Motorola as a possible integrator of Embassy into its STB chipset, its just that it doesn't appear that the SEITF site reference is the "announcement" of or "clue" to that possible relationship.
