Tom, I tend to agree with your theory and even bank on it. This industry is now entering the realm of successful commercialization. The beauty of it has been that not too many analysts understood it or paid attention to it. The rising rate of commercial announcements from the industry is rising awareness. AMSC, IMG are prime companies to become analyst darlings, followed closely by SCON (my opinion for whatever its worth). I also agree with u that the rise in volume is more of an accumulation and positioning pattern, and not so much a takeover. Which is all the better in terms of your above theory. I for one have fastened my seat belt for the whole of last year, and am looking forward for the ride.
