No kiddin',they sure are intimidating if only for the sheer size of the thing (not to forget the style),I started Satanic Verses and my wife finished in 4 days,and me...I still haven't finished it yet.Man, James Joyce comes to mind :)

What is with these guys,Vikram Seth's books are enormous too (are they not? A Suitable Boy comes to mind) to the point it is very easy to mistake it for a copy of 'History of the World-Part II' or something.
