David--

He also spent a disproportionate amount of time holding forth on the stock market in the course of his HH testimony last week--much more than he'd ever done before. And he didn't think this would have any effect? Uh-huh.

I don't believe that "talking" the market up or down is part of his brief: he has other regulatory means at his disposal. He can fiddle with margin, mess with interest rates. That's within his official purview. Rattling the market's cage just for the fun of it isn't. And as I've remarked before, seems to me that in the end--if no real move is made by the Fed--the only result is to increase volatility. Does he consider this desirable?
