What a marvelously thoughtful (and tactful) posting, Penni.

I remember lurking and reading the history for quite a while until I learned a bit about many of you. To tell the truth, I even resisted posting here, knowing it could be addictive. I think that it was Steven's accident that finally sucked me in and I fear I shall never be the same.

I have never had a problem with Terry, but, then, I had a chance to get to know his style and to appreciate his humor. I have found him to be a friend as well as a fun adversary. (I do enjoy a good argument every now and then, it keeps the grey matter working.) He is a part of the texture of this thread and I enjoy him as such. I miss him when he is not around.

Emile Vidrine, however, disturbs me deeply. I don't think that he himself is dangerous, but I do agree with Chuzz that his brand of hate can engender horrors. That kind of blind bigotry makes possible violence on an individual and mass scale. It enabled the slaughter of not only Jews but also Poles and Russians by the Nazis, the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, and I can go on and on.

Yet I am not sure how one should deal with it. Trying to silence suggests an equal repression on the side of "good" and I am uncomfortable with it. Snarling back doesn't seem to answer and ignoring may allow it to grow.
