Edwarda, it doesn't matter. You cannot print whatever you want in a newspaper. The newspaper retains editorial control. Editorial control of SI is similarly retained -- that's why there are Terms of Use. If you wanted to argue that SI is a private club or a forum it would still be within its rights retain editorial control. SI is not a public (government) forum, and that is the point. It is private. SI would be within its rights to terminate EE's membership if SI so desired.

I think all of us are agreed that EE's purpose is to hurt and abuse. These are the specific prohibitions from the Terms of Use: abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, ... improper or otherwise objectionable [material]. It is hard for me to think of a more fitting description of EE's posts. Clearly, Bob would be within his rights to terminate EEs membership.

From my perspective the real issue is why SI feels that EEs presence adds any value at all.
