Rich IBM Microelectronics (ME) relocated to NY , bought 32 bit OS host The AIM partnership appears to be progressing so IBM felt the MOT - INTC suit was better off settled "out of court" . INTC since settled with the FTC . IBM's new ME chief made a speech at IBM's NY plant dedication suggesting that . In reality I suspect IBM moved its ME brains from Austin long ago and MOT's suit was intended to pressure the FTC . A while back IBM (1 1/2 yrs) bought a OS host system from ARM (an AAPL investment) which allows a 32 bit OS to reside in a 16 bit CPU (routers , hand-helds etc) . Haven't seen IBM use it to date and it could be limited to a PowerPC ASIC chip , but with AAPL's P 1 (Mac OS 8.6) coming it intrigues me . Don't know if AIM will get IBM's 32-bit OS host . It looked to be the type of code that could bring OS compatibility to many devices . IBM has a supply deal with 3COM so AIM may never see it . Jim K.
