I don't think CD-R's are impervious to failure. Last week I rented the "Mask of Zorro" on it's sister format, DVD. About 5 % of the movie was unwatchable due to media failure. Pixelation, dropouts both video and audio, and it even caused the DVD player to freeze hard once. I powered it down and up, FF past the freeze point and watched the rest of the movie with only minor annoyance. But if it were computer data on that DVD, it would have been worthless. Much like your rantings on this thread.
