Goldman set to go public, shares to trade Tuesday...Goldman plans to sell 60 million shares -- about 11 percent of its outstanding stock -- in a deal that is expected to top $3 billion

biz.yahoo.com

And your post...
goldman protecting their IPO- it's bigger than that. Every major investment bank gets a percent of the deal, so "the street" is colluding..

Bonnie, I have no clue what Goldman might have done on Friday afternoon. But I think a broad based conspiracy is silly. Solve this math problem for me.

$3 billion in stock to be sold. What is a random firm's allocation of this? 5%? So a random firm has $150 million in stock to sell? And what is their underwriting fee? 6%? So their gross take is what? $9 million? And what is their commission structure to their brokers and their other costs associated with the transaction? 50% of the gross? So they net what? 4.5 million?

Now, you are elected ceo of this hypothetical firm...How many billion dollars do you throw at the market on Friday afternoon?

Everything doesn't have a conspiracy lurking behind it.

((And if it does, and you know what the conspiracy is...what are you going to do about it...and why not profit from it...))
