joan, I don't think I am insensitive to the horrors of the Holocaust at all. And outrage at Emile or anyone who implies that the Jewish people were either at fault, or that it never happened, or that there is any justification for any of it is a given. You don't have to be Jewish to feel the agony of those who suffered and those who lost people they loved. We have all suffered losses from different enemies be it war, or drunk driving, or cancer, or crime. I don't think personal pain can be quantified and compared and frankly, I fail to see that not being Jewish somehow excludes one from being able to empathize. However, that was not the issue- the issue was Terry when this started ( I thought- perhaps I was wrong) and COby's feeling he was insulting you. Then Emile was brought into Edwarda's response to me when I hadn't even been thinking of him.
That said, I think Emile is sick. I have seen him here and elsewhere spewing his garbage and hatred for a long time. And it gets worse when people respond to him because then he can see himself as some sort of martyr to the cause. WHy do the ravings of a mad man so incense you? Why do you read them? As I said, perhaps I am wrong and he has some power, some influence of which I'm unaware--- but to me he is no more than a mentally ill fanatic and I don't think I have ever seen anyone agree with him. If I thought it did some good for you to argue with him, that there was something to be won... but it seems to only give him further impetus to vomit forth more ugliness.
If I have been insensitive in some way to you or anyone regarding the Holocaust, I beg your pardon.
I knew when I posted this morning I would be sorry, and darned if I'm not.
